In FilePreserve, a file under legal hold is never deleted, whatever its disposal mode or how long its retention period has run; the hold wins until an admin lifts it.

Where you set a hold

An admin sets a retention period (in months) and a legal hold flag on each Archive Job. A hold can apply to a single file or job-wide across everything that job archived.

When the hold is checked

Disposal eligibility is re-checked at the moment of actual deletion, not only when a file was first queued. A file that was queued or even approved earlier is still blocked if a hold has since been placed. It is marked Blocked and written to the audit log.

What a hold does not replace

A hold is a setting inside FilePreserve. It does not give legal advice or decide when a hold should apply. Your counsel and records policy decide that. If you never turn on disposal, the default is Preserve forever, and nothing is deleted at all.
