What can FilePreserve archive
Which Salesforce objects and files can I archive?
Any object you have access to — standard or custom. Archive jobs are config-driven: pick a source object, build filter criteria (any AND/OR combination, same shape as a Salesforce list view filter), and FilePreserve archives the files attached to matching records on your chosen schedule.
Does FilePreserve ever archive or delete the record itself, not just its files?
No — that's by design, not a gap. FilePreserve archives and disposes of files attached to matching records; it never archives, moves, or deletes the source record's own field data.
Can I pull files from more than just one record at a time?
Yes — pick whichever records you need, across any related list, and the merge/export tool combines every file tied to them into a single PDF, not just files on that one record. It works the same whether the underlying files are still live or already archived; archived files are pulled back in automatically the moment you select them, with no manual "unarchive first" step.
Storage requirements
Where are archived files actually stored?
In an AWS S3 bucket that you create and control in your own AWS account — never in FilePreserve's own infrastructure. FilePreserve connects to it using Salesforce's native AWS Signature Version 4 authentication, built directly into the managed package's External Credential.
Does it work with storage other than AWS S3?
A real AWS S3 bucket is the only supported and tested option. S3-compatible services that use the same SigV4 signing scheme (Backblaze B2, Wasabi, Cloudflare R2) will likely work by pointing the Named Credential at that endpoint instead — but this hasn't been tested against any of them specifically, so treat it as untested, not guaranteed. Azure Blob Storage and Google Cloud Storage use a different signing scheme entirely and won't work as shipped.
Do I pay FilePreserve for storage?
No — your S3 bucket is billed directly to you by AWS at AWS's standard rates, separate from your $499/mo FilePreserve subscription.
Retention, legal hold, and disposal
What happens to a file while it's under legal hold?
A file with an active legal hold is never disposed of, regardless of its disposal mode or how long retention has elapsed — the hold takes precedence over every other setting until it's explicitly lifted.
What are the three disposal modes?
Preserve forever (the default — nothing is ever automatically deleted), Ask me first (files that reach the end of their retention period are queued for manual approval before anything is deleted), and Delete automatically after notice (an email notice goes out, then files are deleted automatically once a configurable notice period passes with no intervention).
Can a deletion happen by accident?
Every automatic disposal run re-checks eligibility at delete time — legal hold status, whether the job is still active, and a global stop switch that immediately halts all disposal activity org-wide. Nothing is deleted from your S3 bucket or Salesforce org without going through retention/legal-hold/approval checks first.
Getting started
How long does setup take?
Roughly 20–30 minutes for a Salesforce admin, most of it spent on the one-time AWS/S3 step (creating a bucket and IAM credentials). See the full Setup Guide for exact steps.
What's already built for me, and what do I still need to configure?
Already built, no setup required: the permission set, the full archive-job scheduling engine, and the retrieval/export merge tool. Not pre-configured, by design: your own storage bucket (FilePreserve ships with a non-functional placeholder so a misconfigured org can never silently write your data somewhere else) and what to archive — no jobs ship pre-created, you decide.
Do I need help from FilePreserve to get set up?
No — everything is meant to be self-serve. If you'd like a hand anyway, especially with the AWS/S3 step, a 30-minute onboarding call is available; see the bottom of the Setup Guide.
Billing
How much does FilePreserve cost?
$499/month, flat, per Salesforce org — not per seat. See the pricing page for what's included.
How do I actually purchase it?
Billing ties to your org's identity, so it's set up from inside the app after you've installed the package — not as a standalone checkout on this website. We're still getting FilePreserve live on the AppExchange, so join the waitlist and you'll hear the moment it's ready to install.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes — no annual contract, no minimum term, and no email or support ticket needed. Click "Manage billing" right inside FilePreserve and you'll be taken straight to Stripe's own billing portal, where you can cancel yourself. Cancelling during the trial means you're never charged; cancelling after conversion stops the next billing cycle.
Support
Who do I contact if something's wrong?
hello@filepreserve.com — read and answered by a real person, not a ticket queue. Best-effort response within 1–2 business days.
